FAQs

who are you, and why are you running for state senate in ld25?

I’m Laura Huber, a dedicated advocate for equity, justice, and strong community support. I’m running for State Senate to represent the voices of LD 25, ensuring our community has access to quality education, healthcare, safe neighborhoods, and economic opportunities for all.

What are your top priorities if elected?

  • Water Security: Invest in infrastructure that ensures reliable access to water for our families, farmers, and future generations.

  • Education & School Funding: Invest in public schools, reduce class sizes, ensure fair teacher pay, teach mental health coping skills to help students manage stress, anxiety, and emotional well-being, implement comprehensive sex education, provide free lunches, and resist extreme voucher policies that threaten public education.

  • Affordable Housing & Infrastructure: Expand affordable housing, reform zoning to support smart growth, and strengthen infrastructure like roads, water systems, and public transit. Build low-income housing with full wraparound support services.

  • Border Security & Immigration: Support border security while ensuring humane immigration policies and community safety without resorting to divisive rhetoric. End policies that separate families and support pathways to citizenship and legal protections for immigrants.

  • Health Care & Public Health: Expand access to health care, especially in rural and underserved areas, including maternal health, mental health, and telehealth services.

  • Economic Opportunity & Cost of Living: Promote higher wages, attract new industries, support small businesses, and ease cost-of-living pressures on working families.

  • Voting Rights & Election Transparency: Protect fair and secure elections, defend access to early voting and mail-in ballots, end gerrymandering, and build trust in the democratic process. Fight misinformation and ensure all eligible voters can cast ballots safely and securely.

  • Acknowledge and Address Systemic Racism: Commit to policies that confront racial inequities in education, housing, healthcare, and the justice system.

  • Pro-Choice & Bodily Autonomy: Women must have the right to make decisions about their own bodies without government interference, including access to safe and legal abortion, contraception, and comprehensive maternal care.

  • Invest in Women’s Health Research: Increase funding for medical research on women’s health issues — such as endometriosis, maternal health, and other conditions that have long been underfunded and understudied.

  • Period Equity: Eliminate the sales tax on period products and provide free menstrual products in all public bathrooms to ensure that everyone has access to essential health and hygiene items.

  • Equal Pay for Equal Work: Codify and enforce pay equity so that women are compensated fairly and equally for the same work as men.

  • Dignity & Equality in the Workplace: Advance policies that protect women against discrimination and ensure fair treatment in every sector of employment.

  • Justice Reform: End private prisons, prioritize rehabilitation, and provide education, counseling, and fair legal representation.

  • Safety & Unity: Protect peaceful protest, invest in community safety, and reduce political polarization.

  • Future of Work: Regulate AI responsibly, protect workers, and ensure innovation serves the public good.

  • Protecting the LGTBIA+ Community: Strengthen protections against discrimination in schools, workplaces, healthcare, and housing so LGBTQIA+ individuals can live openly and safely.

  • COVID-19 & Public Health Preparedness: Ensure pandemic response is guided by science and public health experts, expand testing and vaccination access, and strengthen the state health infrastructure.

  • Environmental Protection & Climate Action: Invest in clean energy, protect public lands, and enact policies that combat climate change while creating green jobs.

  • Government Ethics & Transparency: Strengthen rules to prevent conflicts of interest, enforce accountability in government contracts and pardons, and ensure taxpayer resources are used ethically.

  • Student Loan Debt Relief: Support policies to forgive student loan debt and make higher education more affordable, easing financial burdens on families and young professionals.

  • Affordable Homeownership for Young People & Families: Provide assistance and incentives to help young people and families buy their first homes, prioritizing primary residences over investment properties or corporate buyers to keep housing accessible and communities stable.

  • Corporate Pay Equity: Enact laws limiting corporate pay disparities ensuring fair wages and reducing income inequality.

  • Reduce Administrative Burdens for Health Professionals: Streamline paperwork and reporting requirements so doctors, nurses, and other health providers can spend more time caring for patients and less time on unnecessary bureaucracy.

  • Protect Patient Care & Regulate Health Insurance: Strengthen oversight of health insurance companies to ensure they cannot interfere with medical decisions, require fair and timely payments to providers, and prevent retroactive fee reductions that disrupt patient care.

  • Fair Taxation: Increase taxes on the wealthiest individuals and corporations while reducing the tax burden on low- and middle-income families, ensuring that everyone pays their fair share and that working families keep more of what they earn.

  • Combat Disinformation: Strengthen regulations and policies to hold platforms and media accountable for spreading false information, while protecting free speech, so voters have access to accurate, reliable news and can make informed decisions.
